  • Bye Bye Crib

Okay, my pity party from last night is over..  .. Mom and Dad made it safely home.  Austin slept all night in his new bed..  .. so here are some pics of it finished.  Well, except for the round feet.  I still need to paint them.  I've had either a cold or allergies, I can't decide which, for about a week, and I didn't feel like painting anymore.  But we moved it to his room anyway, so that Dad would be here to help Chris carry it upstairs.  Then when the feet are painted, I'll just tip the bed up and put them back on.  So right now, it's sitting in his room on the floor.

Okay, here is my original drawing that I showed Chris when I asked him if we could try and build it.  Thankfully, he jumped on board.. I love that guy!  We used the board that the mattress was on in the crib to put on the frame to support the mattress, and all of his crib stuff, so it's different for him but it's still the same stuff that he's used to looking at and we got to use the crib bedding etc. for even longer.  Bonus!  It turned out almost exactly like my original drawing.

Last night we got it situated in his room and he got so excited and wound up (plus it was his last night to visit with Granny&Grandpa), he stayed up until past 10:30.  He just jumped into it, and started throwing his animals in and out and playing like crazy.  I think he thinks it's half bed, half fort, or toy or something..

Here it is in his room..  The board across the front sticks up an inch or two above the mattress, just enough to keep him from rolling out..  I think it will be cuter once I can get the feet painted and on, but oh, well.  It's actually the perfect height for him right now to flop in and out of! ha

He slept all night, and then woke up this morning and came into our room to get in our bed and watch cartoons like usual.  This afternoon he took his nap in it, and when he woke up he just sat in it yelling, "Mommy!!" over and over until I came up to get him.  Like he forgot he wasn't in the crib or something.  I just hope he doesn't start wanting to wake up and wander at night.  He's a pretty good sleeper though, so I hope it stays that way.

Today, Daddy (with Austin's help) dismantled his crib.. (sniff, sniff--ha!)   Doesn't he look tired from his late night?  (and his TEETHING!--he's been very clingy and cranky today.)

    Daddy's little helper..

  • The bedroom and new bed are adorable!  Well - done - YOU!

  • very nice!!  i'm so glad it turned out so well for you guys and i'm so glad austin likes his new bed so well.  i can't believe he's so big!!!  your little boy, we couldn't have imagined this 5 years ago, huh??

  • It looks great!  So... does he fall asleep in it on his own too without getting up.  Cohen did that staying in the bed and calling for us thing at the beginning but it didn't last for long.  Fortunately it only took a couple of weeks tops of us walking him right back to bed before he quit getting out of it at night.  I hope the transition continues to run smoothly!

  • @robins_egg_blue - Thanks!  Esp. coming from a stylish designer gal like you..  .. appreciate it.

  • @lisajo50 -Thanks Leese.   I know right?  He's two but I still wake up everyday amazed.  Keep me posted,k?

  • @melissadenay - Thanks!  So far, (this is only the 2nd night) he's going to sleep on his own in it.. I read to him and rock him and sing to him and say his little prayers and then when he's really sleepy, he points and wants to lay down, I think b/c he's so big now, it's more comfortable for him to just get in bed.  That's what he was doing in his crib, and he's still wanting to have it that way, so knock on wood!  When I put him in the crib though, I'd always tell him to keep his head on the mattress when I left the room so that he wouldn't get up and jump up and down, etc. and I still tell him that now.  So hopefully that should keep him from getting up.  But you never know how things might change....?....ha

  • Awwww. Such sweet pictures of the big boy taking his crib apart. That is such a poignant image!

  • I don't know Kel . . . he looks pretty BIG in that bed already!!  I think you might be needing to make a bigger one soon!!!  : )  It's sooo cute!  Does it have much of a lip so he won't fall out?
